The British way
“That’s a very good point you made there, sir”, the president said.
I was receiving those words of praise in the course of a management convention at Strathclyde University, Glasgow…
I was over the moon… I was glowing with pride… as nine times out of ten I was being told “That’s the stupidest remark I ever heard!”
However, that was in MY country…
What I didn’t know then (but was finding out fast, the hard way), was that “That’s a very good point you made there, sir!” was the British way of saying “That’s the stupidest remark I ever heard!”
This harsh truth only slowly dawned on me when afterwards… nothing was being done with my “very good point”.
